Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q.) What is the fast way to a greener lawn?
A.)To help your lawn to free itself of debris and dead grass, your first and last mowing of the season should be set on a short setting on your mower and the clippings bagged.  Be careful to not mow too short that could cause the blades to scalp the lawn.  The lowest or second to lowest setting on your mower is recommended.  Long grass, piles of leaves can cause mold and other diseases. Spring clean up as early as possible will remove the dead grass and allows the sun to warm up the soil to start the grass plants to grow.  The sooner your mow and clear your yard of debris the quicker your lawn will begin to green up.  The recommended mower height for the rest of the season is 3”. Remember to keep your mower blades sharp. Annual sharpeing of the mower blades is recommended.

Q.) Can rain affect my applications?
A.) Rainfall is always welcomed as rain/watering is very important to a healthy yard.  It is also beneficial following the 1st application for the crabgrass preventative.  We watch the weather closely to insure that we perform your application when rain is not a threat for our broadleaf weed control  (for dandelions, etc.)  However, weather conditions can change quickly and differ from one side of town to the other.  So remember…if weeds aren’t dying in 7 to 10 days after the application, call us and we will come back to re-spray.

Q.) How do I know if I might have grubs?
A.) White grubs (grubworms or simply, grubs) are the C-shaped larvae of a large group of beetles called scarabs.  Grubs commonly attack turf grasses.  In our area, the most commonly are the larvae of June beetles.  White grubs eat organic matter, including the roots of plants.  Therefore, damage first appears to be drought stress.  When an area becomes heavily infested, the turf will first appear off-color gray-green, and wilts rapidly in the hot sun. The turf will die in large irregular patches.  The tunneling of the larvae causes the turf to feel spongy underfoot, and the turf can be rolled back like a loose carpet.  Grub populations may not cause observable turf damage, but animals like raccoons, moles or birds may dig in search of a meal and cause damage.  If you notice any area of your yard that has lost its color, call the office and we will diagnose the problem and provide a remedy.  If your yard develops an imbalance of grubs, we will treat the area at no charge to our Premium 5 Customers.  No one in the business offers this grub protection guarantee!

Q.) When do I power rake my yard?
A.) Due to the extreme damage power raking does to the root system of the grass, we recommend power-raking only if your yard is a mature yard (meaning 5 years or older) and the thatch build-up is extreme.

Q.) How often does my yard need to be aerated?
A.)
We recommend aerating your yard every other year.  Aerations are gentle on the root system of the turf and allow moisture, nutrients and air to reach the roots, stimulating greater root structure.  Aeration needs to be done during the cooler months of early spring or late fall.

Q.) Should I continue with my lawn care service even if I am going to move or sell my home?
A.)
The most important aspect of preparing your home to sell is attention to the curb appeal.  According to Dave Ramsey, 71% will make a decision from the curb on their first look at the property.  Therefore the small investment you make for your lawn care program can have a return on your investment.  We encourage all our customers to contact us when they move or place their home on the market.  We can continue to service the property until we see a sale pending sign.
